Users might also get other improvements for the user interface

The team at Nintendo in charge of the long-term development of the Wii U home console announces that it plans to launch an important firmware update for the device in early summer, which will introduce a new quick start menu for the GamePad.

The company explains that, “one of the major benefits of the GamePad is that we can easily play video games without using the TV, and this has been well received. Unfortunately, however, after starting up Wii U, there is a wait of over 20 seconds before we can select a video game title, and hence it is not an ideal situation for users now.”

It’s unclear why Nintendo is unable to launch the firmware update sooner and whether there are other usability improvements that will be delivered.

The company needs to make the home console more attractive after it was forced to slash sales projections for the device from 9 million to 2.8 million units.
