The gameplay focuses on fluid movement and long combo chains

The makers of We Shall Wake have released a brand new video showing off their progress so far and some pretty interesting combat mechanics.

We Shall Wake has been in the making for quite some time, being more of a pet project than an actual development effort, being worked on during spare time and supported by Patreon donations.

Its makers want to prove that you can create a good game without a big budget, by focusing on streamlined gameplay mechanics, with an emphasis on fun rather than spiffy graphics.

The game is about exploring dungeons and engaging in fast-paced combat with multiple enemies, with in-depth combo systems, similar to the action in the Devil May Cry series.

The tie with DMC means that there will be a lot of crazy action, including juggling combos, aerial dashes, and a lot of other stuff that you would expect to see in a Dragon Ball game. Well, maybe except all the annoying talking.

Gamers will have to venture inside a tower and explore dungeons, stumbling upon massive bosses from time to time, and being challenged to test their abilities against them.

The creators want to craft an experience where gamers have to master the controls and game systems just like in the good old days of arcade gaming, complete with puzzles, labyrinths to navigate, and packs of roaming AI-controlled baddies to defeat.

You play the role of a technologically advanced biomechanical life form, and the action takes place long after the fall of mankind, but the story is not the focus. The star of the show is by far the fluid and fast-paced combat, as you can see below.
