During the Steam Dev Days event, Valve allowed various game developers to try out its own virtual reality headset and the first impressions are quite great, according to one lucky participant.

The Steam Dev Days event is used by Valve to keep its various partners up to date with its plans for the future of Steam, including the SteamOS, Steam Machines, or controller.

The studio also allowed some developers, like David Hensley of Tripwire Interactive, to try out the new Virtual Reality headset that it plans to release in the near future.

According to Hensley, trying out the new tech felt like being in the Star Trek holodeck, as the system uses head tracking and motion detection to allow users to walk around its virtual environment.

There wasn't any problem with latency and the positioning and interaction were quite accurate, according to him.

When compared to the Oculus Rift, Valve's VR system feels like the original Xbox while the Rift is more like the Nintendo Entertainment System.

As of yet, however, there are no other details available about the Valve VR.
