Video game publisher Ubisoft has stated that it might soon begin offering third-party video games in its Uplay Store, which would make the service a direct competitor of Steam from Valve and Origin from Electronic Arts.

Stephanie Perotti, who is an executive in charge of marketing at Ubisoft, has told MCV that, “We remain open to opportunities. Right now, we’re starting the service with our own games, but as we go forward, we plan to potentially add other titles.”

At the moment, the uPlay service only sells Ubisoft-published games and offers a number of social features for users.

The app was the source of a major security vulnerability earlier during the year and if Ubisoft ever wants to make it a player in the digital distribution market then it needs to fix its image in the eyes of customers first.

Ubisoft has recently dropped the Digital Right Management from all its PC games.
