Minecraft console developer 4J Studios has confirmed that two updates are set to appear for Minecraft on the PS3 and Xbox 360, and are designed to enable the save game transfer from those two consoles to new ones like PS4, Xbox One, or PS Vita.

Minecraft may have tens of millions of fans on the PC, but it's become even more popular on consoles like PS3 or Xbox 360, breaking sales records and getting lots of different expansions via free updates and paid DLC.

Now, 4J Studios, the team behind the console versions of Minecraft, is getting ready to bring the experience to a few more platforms, in the form of PS4, Xbox One, and PS Vita.

Ahead of their release, however, the studio has revealed on Twitter that two updates are set to appear for Minecraft on PS3 and Xbox 360, which are both designed to allow the save game transfer from those platforms to the upcoming versions of the game.

PS3 owners will be able to migrate their worlds and save game files to the PS4 or PS Vita, while Xbox 360 owners can do that for the Xbox One. Cross-platform transfer, however, isn't possible.

As of yet, both the updates and the new versions of Minecraft are in the certification process with Sony and Microsoft.
