Politicians might demonize video games in order to score political points with concerned parents and other categories, but the United States of America federal governments seems to have embraced them as important tools for economic and social development.

Constance Steinkuehler Squire, the policy advisor at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, has stated at the Games for Health conference in Boston that, “I can tell you the rhetoric around games has changed. Something has shifted. People have come to understand finally that video games are a powerful medium.”

She added, “The Federal government has been investing in games for well over a decade. If you include military simulations it goes way back before that, and yet none of that investment has been coordinated.”

The United States has a Federal Game Guild that works across agencies and has 177 across 33 different organizations, including 4 White House offices.

Video games will be used to persuade citizens to adopt better health habits and take part in the democratic process in the near future.
