Hopefully its soundtrack will be as good as the older games

Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk has confirmed that his next game will be released on the PlayStation 4 home entertainment system sometime this year.

The news comes from Sony's keynote at CES 2015 in Las Vegas, so the PS4 bit doesn't mean that the game would be a PlayStation exclusive. Activision first mentioned that a console skateboarding game was in the works for 2015 back in November, and Tony Hawk revealed that the game was much further along its way than initially thought.

No other details were provided unfortunately, aside from the fact that the title would include the famous professional skateboarder's name.

I liked the first two (maybe three) entries in the series, but subsequent titles managed to grab my attention less and less. I really enjoyed the over-the-top arcade gameplay of those earlier games, and I fondly remember playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 four hours on end, trying to get every achievement and upgrade and to perfect my map-spanning trick chains.

One of the things I distinctly remember from those days was the high-quality licensed soundtrack the games had, which alongside Dave Mirra's Freestyle BMX games helped me discover a ton of great bands.

My hopes for the upcoming title would be a return to the roots of the genre, to that crazy arcade gameplay, and not the push for realism that later entries attempted to deliver. In addition to this, I'm also very curious to see what kind of soundtrack Activision will put together for this.
