Video game publisher Electronic Arts might have pleasantly surprised some fans by announcing that it was aiming to launch Mirror's Edge 2 alongside a new Need for Speed and Plants vs. Zombies in spring 2016, but it will also disappoint another group by revealing that Titanfall 2 is still a long way out.

According to data from the new financial report that was presented to investors, the plan is to launch the shooter sequel at some point in 2017, presumably during the spring.

The announcement probably refers to the financial year, which might mean that a late 2016 launch is a possibility, although an official announcement with more precise details will probably be made later during the year.

Titanfall 2 was revealed earlier in 2015 and will be offered on the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft, and the PC.

Development duties are being handled by Respawn Entertainment, which also created the original title in the series.

The studio has said that it plans to keep the core elements of the series unchanged, with a focus on mobility and the interplay between the nimble pilots and the very powerful and well-armored Titans.

Player feedback will be taken into account in the development of Titanfall 2.
