The new title might still reboot the Underground series

Electronic Arts confirms that work on the next Need for Speed game, which is set to debut this fall, is well underway at its Ghost Games studio and that the title is "already looking spectacular."

The Need for Speed series has been around for quite some time and has gone through several ups and downs in terms of quality and sales figures.

In a desperate attempt to salvage it, EA formed a special studio, Ghost Games, which oversaw 2013's Need for Speed: Rivals, which went on to have average reviews and sales.

In order to give the next game enough time to grow into a proper experience, EA and Ghost decided to push back its release into fall of 2015.

Now during the latest financial earnings reveal, EA has touched briefly on this subject and confirms that things are going rather well and that it's still going to debut in fiscal year 2016, which starts right at the end of the 2015 calendar year.

"Our Need for Speed franchise will return in FY16 with a game that is already looking spectacular," the company says, via a transcript from SeekingAlpha.

The title has been rumored to be a reboot of the old Underground spinoff series in recent times but nothing is certain at least for now.
