Nolan Bushnell, the founder of Atari, says that the used game market is necessary because it allows more gamers to get access to experiences that they would be unable to buy at their launch price.
He tells VG247 that, “What happens in that case is that the person who bought the first instance has a little bit of money so he can continue to buy new games at a higher rate than he would have otherwise.”
Developers and publishers might not get revenue from used games sales but all the money players earn back is then used to increase sales for new releases.
Microsoft tried to limit the secondary market for its coming Xbox One but reversed its position after fans started putting pressure on the company.
Both next-gen consoles will be launched in November of this year.
