Turbine has also stated that merging servers to manage population is not an option

Turbine has announced that no further traditional content expansions are planned for its popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game The Lord of the Rings Online.

Turbine was one of the first to jump on the free-to-play bandwagon, and it turned out to be a great decision at the time.

It quickly became the third most played MMORPG of 2010, according to analyst reports, with the developer citing the adoption of the free-to-play model to be the main reason for the growth of their subscriber base.

Since then the player base has been steadily waning, and many devoted players are concerned that if things continue on this path, they may soon be unable to enjoy the game.

Several suggestions have been made, among the most popular being a general server merge that will bring players together, or the release of new content.

Recently, The Lord of the Rings Online community manager Rick Heaton advised not to expect any more instances or raids to be added to the game, as reported by CMP.

He also noted that there were “absolutely no plans” to merge servers, largely because of a technical fault that prevents players from transferring between Turbine's servers and Codemasters' (who run the European side of things).
