Nintendo confirms that it's decided to delay the release of the long-awaited The Legend of Zelda game for the Wii U console until 2016, meaning it won't even get to present the game at the E3 2015 event in June.

Nintendo's Wii U hasn't exactly repeated the success of its predecessor, the massively popular Wii U, despite strong exclusive games from Nintendo like Super Smash Bros. and much more.

Now, one of the strongest exclusives of the year for the Wii U, The Legend of Zelda, has just been delayed until 2016.

The announcement, made by Producer Eiji Aonuma in a special video message to fans confirms that the team needs extra time to work on the role-playing experience.

As such, the title won't even be present at the upcoming E3 2015 event in June, as that would also distract the team from working hard on the long-awaited game.

It's unclear if the delay is also tied to Nintendo's recently confirmed next-generation console, which is codenamed NX, and should appear in 2016. It makes sense for The Legend of Zelda title to appear on both the Wii U and the NX, in order to have a system seller on both devices.
