The Last of Us, the upcoming PlayStation 3 game from Naughty Dog, borrows quite a few concepts from older games like Ico or Resident Evil 4, as the studio wanted to blend the elements together into a new survival experience.

The Last of Us is out next month, and Naughty Dog shared with fans many interesting details about the single-player campaign, which focuses on Joel and Ellie, but also on the Factions multiplayer experience.

According to the studio's Ricky Cambier, who talked with MMGN, the studio looked at lots of other games for certain elements.

"We always wanted to take the character building and interaction, look at something as far back as Ico, and blend it with the tension and action of Resident Evil 4. Our game doesn’t feel like either of those, but those have bits and pieces of what we wanted to do."

The Last of Us looks like an interesting experience and will certainly delight PS3 owners next week when it comes out, on June 14.
