The development team at ZeniMax Online says that it is currently pushing Microsoft, the platform holder of the Xbox 360, to drop the Xbox Live Gold requirement for the upcoming The Elder Scrolls Online in order to make the game more attractive to players.

Pete Hines, one of the executives at Bethesda, tells The Official Xbox Magazine that “We have been in talks with Microsoft about that very thing, and seeing whether or not there’s any room to change their minds about that, for folks who are only paying The Elder Scrolls Online and don’t want to pay for an Xbox Live Gold subscription, just to pay the Elder Scrolls Online.”

The executive believes that the Gold subscription tends to act as a monthly subscription for those who like a particular multiplayer experience and that it would represent double taxation to ask fans of Elder Scrolls to pay two fees.

The Elder Scrolls Online will be launched in early 2014 and will be offered on the PC and on next-gen consoles.
