Many fans of the Elder Scrolls game universe were excited by a classification that surfaced earlier during the day suggesting that Arena, the first title in the series, might be getting a remake for the PC and home consoles.

Unfortunately for them, Pete Hines, the leader of marketing at Bethesda, says that no project to relaunch the game for modern devices is active.

He tells Joystiq that, "This is simply an error on their part. It should just say PC, not multiplatform. We've notified them and they're going to fix. There is no new version of the game coming. Just a clerical mix-up."

Bethesda has also announced that it was no longer working on new downloadable content for Skyrim and that it will use its resources for new, unannounced projects.

The Elder Scrolls Online will be launched on the PC later during the year.
