The Editor, the first official modding tool for the Total War series, has been released by The Creative Assembly and can be downloaded via the Steam digital distribution service for all those who own either Shogun 2 or the Fall of the Samurai standalone expansion.

Gamers can use the editor to create their own maps, which can be used both in multiplayer matches and in battles fought in custom matches against the Artificial Intelligence.

To get TEd, gamers need to go to the Library section of Steam, then select All Games and then choose to install Total War: Shogun 2 – TEd.

The options included in the editor are very close to those that the development team itself used when creating the game.

The modding community for Shogun 2 has also asked for options to change the behavior of the Artificial Intelligence and to tinker with the campaign map, but the company has not said whether it will deliver any official tools linked to them.
