The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been indefinitely delayed on the Xbox One platform by publisher Activision, with mere weeks to go until the game's release date.

The move is, no doubt, causing wonder, and Activision has not yet provided a reason for the decision, which went under the radar when some gamers noticed that all references to the Xbox One version of the game had been removed from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 official website.

The rumor was initially started by some users noticing their pre-orders canceled by Australian retailer EB Games, and was then reflected in an official manner when the website was updated, removing Microsoft's Xbox One next-gen console from the list of platforms the upcoming game will be available on.

"We want to inform you that we are revising our release plans for Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Xbox One," a spokesperson for the publisher stated. "When and whether Amazing Spider-Man 2 is released on Xbox One is TBD."

With no reason provided and the move being enforced so stealthily, the result is that many retailers are still taking pre-orders for the Xbox One version of the game.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is coming out on May 2, for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, Wii U, Xbox 360 and PC platforms.

[UPDATE]

Activision stated that the Xbox One version is not canceled and that it is currently working with Microsoft to bring the Amazing Spider-Man 2 to Xbox One sometime in the future. Additionally, it assured fans that the game will be launched on all other platforms according to the release schedule.
