The game still allows players to pay in order to win

Cevat Yerli, the leader of developer Crytek, says that the very popular Team Fortress 2 from Valve is not actually a fully free-to-play title because gamers can access only around 70 percent of the experience without paying for weapons.

The developer tells PCGamesN that “It’s on the way to be there, it’s a good model and it works for them, but there is still pay to win there and I don’t like that.”

Yerli acknowledges that Team Fortress 2 is a good experiment when it comes to user-generated content, and points the way to how future titles might tackle the new business model.

He adds that Crytek, for its upcoming free-to-play projects, will allow communities to create items in order to earn in-game currency, but will never offer commercial items in order to avoid pay-to-win problems.
