Parents use video games to give children something to do

A survey undertaken by the toy manufacturer Galt has revealed that the average kid spends about eight and a half hours playing video games during each week of their summer holidays.

The company estimates that each kid spends 12 full days in front of a television set during the same period, which generates some concern in the parent group, with about 74 percent of them interested in seeing their kids spend more time with real-world rather than virtual games.

The study was linked to more than 2,000 respondents in the United Kingdom.

Galt also revealed that each of the questioned kids had about 923 dollars (736 Euro) of electronic equipment in their bedrooms, including video game consoles and tablets.

Some might see the results as proof that kids spent too much time playing video games, but parents are partially to blame as more than one sixth of them use computer screens and television sets in order to keep their children occupied.
