Satoru Iwata, the president of Nintendo, says that the coming Super Mario 3D World is one of the video game that will be able to generate sales for the Wii U home console in time for the crucial Christmas shopping period.

CVG says that during a meeting with investors the executive has admitted that just one game will not be able to turn around the fortunes of the platform.

He says there is “little seasonable demand at the moment” for the Wii U and that Nintendo needs to release more games to make the device interesting.

At the same time Iwata says his company “failed to make propositions worthy of Wii U's position as a successor to the Wii system.”

Wii Sports Club and Wii Fit U are cited as other titles that will be able to generate sales.

Super Mario 3D World will be launched on November 22 in the United States and one week later in Europe.
