Valve has just updated the Steam client beta with a brand new Steam VR mode that allows owners of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset to use it when interacting with the digital distribution service.

Valve has been a big backer of the Virtual Reality trend and it's already implemented support for the Oculus Rift headset into its big games like Team Fortress 2.

Now, the company is taking things one step forward by introducing Steam VR, a special mode that's included in the latest client beta update.

The VR mode allows Steam to be explored using an Oculus Rift headset.

"As of the most recent Steam Client Beta steam now supports an experimental VR mode," Valve's Joe Ludwig said on the official group. "If you own an Oculus Rift dev kit you can try it out by starting Steam with “-vr” on the command line. Then press the Big Picture button to enter Big Picture + VR mode."

Expect to see more news about Valve and its Virtual Reality plans soon.
