The online digital distribution service from Valve goes down

Valve's Steam digital distribution service has been taken offline after a series of DDoS attacks that are apparently perpetrated by a new group of hackers.

Update: Steam is back online for now but some users continue to report problems.

Plenty of DDoS attacks have been recorded in recent days, many coming from hacker group DERP, which targeted online games like League of Legends or World Of Tanks, but also online services like Battle.net or, more recently, Origin.

Now, a new group under the Twitter name chFtheCat has apparently taken responsibility for a new round of DDoS attacks, this time targeted at the Steam service from Valve.

Currently, Steam is offline for many users, but those who were already connected can use its internal messaging system for now.

As of yet, Valve hasn't commented on the attacks or the status of the Steam service.
