Gabe Newell, the leader of Steam creator Valve, believes that one of the main changes that could be implemented in the coming months is an expansion of the user-generated elements of the digital distribution service.

Speaking to The Verge, he says, “We think that the store should actually be more like user generated content. So, anybody should be able to create a store, and it should be about extra entertainment value. Our view has always been that we should build tools for customers and tools for partners.”

Valve has already given Steam users a voice via the Mod Workshop and the Greenlight service and user-generated stores would be a good way of showing how varied the service and the games available on it are.

Steam is the biggest digital distribution service on the PC.
