Blizzard has confirmed that it’s now aiming at a first half of 2013 release window for the upcoming StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm expansion, as it’s no longer going to deploy it this year.

StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty came out back in 2010 and Blizzard promised that the next installment in the series, Heart of the Swarm, would be released as soon as possible.

Since then, two years have passed and, while Heart of the Swarm is in closed beta, the studio has now revealed that it wouldn’t make its initial late 2012 release date.

According to Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime, via Kotaku, the studio is now aiming for a launch in the first half of 2013.

While an official reasoning for the delay hasn’t been given, you can expect the developer to use this time in order to polish the real-time strategy series before it is released for the PC and Mac platforms.
