Movie director J.J. Abrams, the man who handled the reboot of Star Trek for the big screen, says that he is very disappointed in the way video game developer Digital Extreme treated the movie game version of the franchise.

He is quoted by The Official Xbox Magazine as saying that, "The last game, which was obviously a big disappointment to me, was something that we were actually involved in from the very beginning and then we sort of realised that it was not going in a place where we were going to get what we wanted."

Apparently at some point the movie team no longer collaborated with Digital Extreme.

Initially the Star Trek video game was envisioned as a self contained adventured that would allow players to see the way the relationship between Kirk and Spock was evolving.

The resulting experience was hampered by limited gameplay, bad graphics and a story that failed to excite fans of the series.

A new Star Trek movie is already in the initial stages of production.
