Chris Roberts founder of Cloud Imperium has announced that Star Citizen has hit the amazing number of $23 million / €16 million in funding, leading to a new Xi'an scout plane being unlocked.

It seems that the extra funding gives developers the chance to expand the Star Citizen universe and improve things even more. Roberts himself said “The goal here isn't simply to add an extra ship to the game, but to add a new type of ship which can be expanded upon as we go.”

The developing team have also announced the game's stretch goal of $25 million / €18 million that consists in establishing a wider alpha testing net. This will lead to extra servers and worldwide infrastructure for the early testing of Star Citizen.

Also, there will be an increase in the number of remaining alpha user slots.

Those that have backed up the project so far will be rewarded with a model of the Khartu so that they may display it in their hangers. Players won't have it immediately as things are currently in progress, but the devs promise to keep everyone updated.

To make things even more interesting, Roberts brought forth two new images from concept artist Ryan Church to show players what they are to expect from the game.
