Nintendo is announcing that the first major eSports tournament featuring recently launched Splatoon will take place this week as part of the Nintendo World Championships, with the first matches taking place starting on Sunday, June 14, at 3 PM Pacific Daylight Time.

The official trailer for the competition says that seven other titles will be featured.

For the Splatoon competition, eight players have been selected in Best Buy stores, where Nintendo ran a qualifier, and eight other gamers have been selected by the company directly.

Kevin Pereira will host the competition, and djWHEAT, Andre of Black Nerd Comedy and Justin Flynn will deliver commentary.

Fans of Splatoon and Nintendo can watch all the action at the World Championships via the official Twitch channel.

The company does not have a traditional press conference at E3 2015, but it will deliver some announcements in the coming week.

The focus will be on the future of the Wii U and the 3DS, and there are no plans to talk about the NX platform, which will only get more details at some point in 2016.

Splatoon has managed to generate solid sales in its first weeks on the market, but it's unclear whether Nintendo can make it attractive as an eSport.
