Video game hardware maker Sony says that it currently does not have any plans to launch a Western version of the new PlayStation Vita model, the 2000 series, which is at the moment sold in Japan.

Andrew House, the leader of Sony Computer Entertainment, is quoted by CVG as saying that, “I can't talk about launch plans for the 2000 series at this point. It has launched in Japan and it's selling very well there, and it has certainly increased overall Vita sales - both on hardware and software.”

The new version of the Vita is designed to be thinner, to better fit in a pocket, lighter, with increased battery life and with a new screen that uses the LCD standard rather than OLED.

Those who have used both versions of the Vita are saying that the 2000 series is an improvement and that it might generate more sales for Sony if launched on the Western markets.
