The team needs to also deliver great game experiences

Jack Tretton, the leader of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, says that the lower launch price of the PlayStation 4 is not a guarantee that the next-gen console will sell better than its rival from Microsoft, the Xbox One.

He is quoted by Gamespot as saying that “The gamer looks at ten-year product lifecycles; they look at the software offerings; they look at the value proposition, and the lowest priced system isn’t always the most successful.”

The executive does acknowledge that, in this economic climate, selling for 100 dollars or Euros less than the competition can be a good starting advantage.

Tretton says that his entire company now needs to execute on the promise of the hardware while it has the backing of the player and the development community.

The PlayStation 4 will be out on November 15 in North America and two weeks later in Europe.

The Xbox One has no confirmed date.
