The Japan launch will make it harder to get devices to players

Fergal Gara, the leader of the Sony video game division in the United Kingdom, says that his company expects the PlayStation 4 home console to be supply constrained until at least April of this year.

He tells VideoGamer that, “PS4 pre-orders ... were so big that we were pinching ourselves and wondering if people were pre-ordering in more than one place, and if some of these pre-orders were real.”

The situation is currently pretty stable in the United States and in Europe, but the Japanese launch, which is taking place on February 22, means that even more devices need to be produced and shipped.

The PlayStation 4 has managed to move 5.3 million units to gamers between launch in November last year and February 8.

The device is currently selling better than the Xbox One from Microsoft, but the situation might change in the coming year, mainly because of possible price cuts and supply issues.
