The PlayStation 3 caused lots of losses and Sony doesn't want to repeat it with the PS4

Sony has confirmed that it's not planning to lose money with the launch of the PlayStation 4 next-generation console this year, as the company spent considerably less money on the new device than with the PlayStation 3.

The PlayStation 3 caused the company to lose a lot of money when it was first released, as the company invested massively in the console and its unique Cell chip.

With the PlayStation 4, however, Sony isn't planning on "a major loss," at least according to its Chief Financial Officer, Masaru Kato, via Eurogamer.

The fact that Sony is working together with AMD, which already has the production facilities needed for PS4's internal components, means the company has already saved lots of money.

Kato, however, didn't mention when the PS4 would be released and how many consoles the company expects to sell in its first few months.
