In the midst of rumors about Microsoft's next-gen Xbox 720 requiring a constant Internet connection, Sony confirmed that it didn't even consider implementing such a thing in its own PlayStation 4.

The next generation of consoles is set to be released either later this year or in the beginning of 2014, and lots of rumors are floating around the web.

While Sony showcased the PS4 back in February, Microsoft is still getting ready to debut the first details about its own Xbox 720 this month.

Unfortunately, a nasty rumor appeared some time ago, mentioning that the new Xbox would require a permanent Internet connection to even work.

Sony's Shuhei Yoshida talked about such a requirement and confirmed that the company didn't even considering making its own PlayStation 4 an "always-on" device.

"The main reason being that many countries don’t have robust Internet connections. It makes sense for people to have Internet connections to play online games, but for offline games there are many countries that we saw do not really have robust Internet," he told GameInformer magazine, via GE.

Microsoft is set to clarify the features of its Xbox 720 (aka Durango) on May 21.
