Slenderman Rights Dispute Keeps Faceless Off Steam

The service is supposed to promote players' favorite titles

Despite being the most voted game by players on the new Steam Greenlight service from Valve, Faceless is kept from actually being launched by a dispute over the right to use the main character.

Justin Ross, the developer behind the game, tells Joystiq that, “We've been the No. 1 game since the service launched and have yet to be Greenlit due to copyright issues with Slender Man, which is a free-to-use entity, and we've even gotten permission from the creator Victor Surge.”

The developer has criticized Valve for keeping the fans waiting, adding that, “Greenlight games aren't chosen by the community like Valve has stated, and it's instead their choice, not the community's.”

Faceless is designed to offer players a complex horror experience and the game is based on a character that has been created collectively by a number of Internet users.
