The company is not yet willing to offer more details

Video game publisher Activision says that it is returning the Skylanders franchise to the original developer Toys for Bon for the 2014 installment and that more details about the new toys and gameplay features will be offered at a later date.

The company quotes competitive reasons for the decision to withhold details at the moment, which suggests that it is worried about the potential competition coming from Disney Infinity, which launched in 2013 and managed to generate solid sales.

Skylanders was the fourth best-selling title of last year and Activision already sees it as one of its main revenue streams, alongside Call of Duty and World of Warcraft.

A rumor suggests that Disney is preparing to add more content to its own franchise this year, with characters and adventures based on Star Wars and on Marvel comics.

A new Skylanders expansion will probably be offered in late summer or early autumn.
