The developers at Ironclad Games have released the first look at the actual in-game look of the upcoming Rebellion standalone expansion for Sins of a Solar Empire, revealing some pretty impressive upgrades over the previous version of the game.

Sins of a Solar Empire was first launched during 2008 and the game impressed both in terms of mechanics and with its graphical quality.

Even though four years have passed since then, the space-based strategy still looks very good, with some particularly impressive lightning and particle effects.

Rebellion is also set to add three new factions to the game by splitting up the ones from the initial release, giving each of the sides a different focus when it comes to combat strength and research.

The game is expected to arrive late during 2012 and will also offer a number of new ships to play around with, including bigger Titan class units that have unique battlefield abilities.

Ironclad Games is currently taking pre-orders for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion.
