Ocean Quigley, the leading producer working on the new SimCity, says that the team at Maxis decided on the current size of in-game urban locations based on current computer performance.

As the game evolves and better hardware becomes available, cities could increase in size, giving hardcore fans of the series more options.

The developer tells Incgamers that, “We need to keep in mind that Sim City is a mainstream game, it’s not a game that is only going to run on high-end gaming PCs, it has to run in your Dad’s PC as well.”

He adds, “We’ll eventually get around to expanding the city size but I can’t make any promises as to when.”

The SimCity reboot comes complete with curved roads, more tracking options for citizens and gameplay optimized for multiple cities.
