The development team at Maxis working on SimCity announces that the game is currently supporting mods created by the community and is laying out all the rules that user created content needs to adhere to in order to be distributed.

The studio explains that mods are a great way to expand gameplay but all gamers need to make sure that they do not eliminate the multiplayer element of the game, keep the integrity of the experience, do not use copyrighted content from other companies and do not deliver any adult elements.

Maxis explains in an official blog post that, "We encourage you to create, redistribute, and consume Mods for SimCity, as long as you respect all of the rules and guidelines set in this policy (collectively, the “Rules”)."

More rules are also offered for those who plan to create new content.

Maxis also says that it continues to explore the viability of an entirely offline mode for SimCity.
