Yacht Club Games' prodigious platformer Shovel Knight is coming to the Xbox One home console at the beginning of next week.

The news comes from Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb and Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, who revealed via Twitter that Shovel Knight just passed through Microsoft's certification process, which means that it's pretty much ready to go.

The game is currently available on PC and on the Wii U and 3DS gaming devices from Nintendo, and users and critics alike praised its tight design as a throwback to the heyday of the Nintendo Entertainment System.

The game puts players in control of an armor-clad knight armed with his trusty shovel, embarking on a quest to save his beloved, the Shield Knight, who has been possessed by a cursed amulet.

Shovel Knight features 8-bit visuals with a color palette that has been created specifically in order to mimic the oldschool titles that made the NES a legend, and gameplay that feels both fresh and classic at the same time.

The game landed on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita consoles from Sony yesterday, and it's headed to the Xbox One on April 27, 2015.

Developer Yacht Club Games revealed that the Plague of Shadows campaign would be released as a free update for Shovel Knight owners sometime later this year, allowing them to assume control of the Plague Knight boss character.
