Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has just been released across platforms like the PC, PS3, or Xbox 360 and, like with any major launch, shady individuals have decided to take advantage of those who want to score a deal by offering fake serial keys in exchange for private information.

Counter-Strike is a global phenomenon and the latest Global Offensive installment has been eagerly awaited by many fans of the series.

Scammers have also looked forward to the game’s release, as they’re now getting people to share their personal information in exchange for fake keys.

According to HotforSecurity, a new scam is running on a copy of a legitimate website and promises free serial numbers for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

In order to get them, fans need to answer questions in a survey or visit a commercial website. While that sounds harmless enough, both ask personal information, ranging from name, to e-mail, telephone number or real-life address.

Once they fork over their data, a fake key is offered which, as you can guess, can’t be redeemed on Steam.

As always, we advise you to stay safe and only purchase games via legitimate websites, retailers, or digital distribution services.
