The development team at Maxis has stated soon after the troubled SimCity launch that the very nature of the game makes it very hard to create an offline mode, but a source is contesting that statement and suggesting that the developers are simply unwilling to create it.

A source tells Rock, Paper, Shotgun that, "It wouldn’t take very much engineering to give you a limited single-player game without all the nifty region stuff."

Apparently, the Maxis servers are only marginally involved in the computing work required to maintain a single city.

Many gamers have asked Maxis and Electronic Arts to create an offline mode for SimCity in order to allow all those who have bought the title to actually play it.

The two companies have been updating server infrastructure and claim that the number of issues has decreased by more than 90 percent when compared to launch day.
