Microsoft is ready to announce the name and use it before launch

A number of sources from the video game industry have told Kotaku that the codename for the next Xbox home console project from Microsoft is Durango.

It also seems that the company will soon make the codename public and will refer for the platform as such before it settles on an actual name that it will use for the device when it launches.

This process was already used by Microsoft for the Kinect motion tracking add-on for the Xbox 360, which was known for a long time as Project Natal.

Rumors about the next home console from Microsoft say that it might integrate an upgraded version of Kinect, that it will have a system which will not allow used games to be played and that it will integrate a tablet-like controller.

So far, Microsoft has denied it has any plans to reveal new hardware during 2012, and said that it had a long-term development plan for the current version of the Xbox 360.
