Independent video game developer Housemarque is preparing to make a mysterious announcement at the upcoming Gamescom 2014, starting next week in Cologne, Germany.

The mysterious teaser trailer that the company released does not offer any hints regarding what the company might have in store, aside from something streaking across the skies, but we'll know soon enough.

Finnish developer Housemarque is responsible for Outland, Dead Nation and Resogun, and now they're apparently looking to reveal their upcoming project, shrouded in a haze of secrecy.

The team released the top-down shoot'em up Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition on the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 earlier this year, as a follow-up to the PlayStation 3 hit of 2010, so the company could be thinking about visiting the setting once again.

Although Housemarque is not a Sony exclusive developer, the company has pretty close ties with the platform holder, being the first officially confirmed PlayStation 4 dev, back when the system was first revealed, and having released the side-scrolling shooter Resogun as a free-to-play game for the PlayStation 4 launch in November 2013.

Gamescom 2014 takes place from August 11 through August 15, and we'll keep our eyes open and come back with the information as soon as Housemarque makes the announcement.
