Video game publisher Capcom has announced that Resident Evil 6 has shipped more than 4.5 million copies all over the world, more than any other titles launched by the company until now.

The shipping figure is linked to how many copies are available in retail stores and not to actual sales.

Capcom estimates that Resident Evil 6 will sell more than 7 million units before March 31, 2013 rolls around.

The previous game in the series shipped a little over 4 million units on launch and its total lifetime reported sales currently stand at 5.8 million.

Resident Evil 6 has been released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 2.

The game is also expected to get a PC version at a later date.

The game includes three full campaigns linked to three of the most interesting characters in the series, all of them coop-enabled.

The game has received mixed reviews.
