Developer and publisher Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil 0 is getting a remaster, slated for release sometime in early 2016.

The information comes from an event in Japan, where the company has revealed that the remastered edition of the prequel to the hugely popular original Resident Evil is in development, headed to last-gen and current-gen consoles and PC, as reported by Famitsu.

It seems that the remastered edition of the first Resident Evil was successful enough to warrant other titles to be explored. Capcom has revealed that the remaster sold over 1 million copies as of last month, and that it will be focusing on delivering more HD remasters of its previous hits.

What's more, the game's original director, Koji Oda, and numerous staff members who worked on the original title are making a comeback and will be involved in the development of the remastered edition of the survival horror title.

The original Resident Evil 0 made its debut on the GameCube back in 2002, and was then subsequently re-released on the Nintendo Wii console in 2008.

The game puts players in control of S.T.A.R.S. medic Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen, an ex-soldier, allowing them to switch between the two characters in order to make use of each one's unique array of skills.

The Resident Evil 0 HD remaster video game is expected out on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC, sometime during early 2016.
