Valve boss Gabe Newell has made an official statement about the recent layoffs that occurred at the studio, confirming that they aren't the result of canceled projects and that the departure of the staff won't affect ongoing efforts.

Valve has become much more than just a game developer, as the studio is running the most successful digital distribution platform out there – Steam – while trying to enter the hardware market with the Steam Box project.

Things have taken a turn for the worse, however, as it was recently confirmed that quite a few employees have left the studio, including Steam development director Jason Holtman or Steam Box controller engineer Jeri Ellsworth.

In order to prevent any speculation, Valve boss Gabe Newell has released a statement to Engadget about the layoffs.

"No, we aren't cancelling any projects. No, we aren't changing any priorities or projects we've been discussing. No, this isn't about Steam or Linux or hardware or [insert game here]. We're not going to discuss why anyone in particular is or isn't working here."

As of yet, no other details about the layoffs have appeared.
