The developers working on the Brave New World expansion for Civilization V were interested in adding the Pueblo as a faction but were unable to do so because their official Council would not allow their language to be portrayed in the strategy game.

Scott Lewis, a designer working on the game, tells Polygon that “Here are the natives, but they interact with you very differently. The Pueblo would be a more spiritual, religious Western civ.”

The language of the Pueblo is seen as sacred and including it in a video game would be a form of desecration.

Firaxis scrapped the civilization and added the Bannock-Shoshone to Brave New World.

The new Civilization V content will enhance the end game with new trade mechanics and more political options that can be used to upgrade the power of a civilization.
