The team in charge of the PlayStation Network service at Sony announces that a number of users have reported that they are having problems when trying to log in from both the PlayStation 4 home console and the older PS3.

The official Twitter feed states that it is currently investigating possible causes for the problem and that it will deliver an update when it has more information that can help those who are affected.

The official account of Call of Duty has also advised those playing the first-person shooter on PlayStation devices to be aware that PSN is experiencing high loads and that they might be unable to log in.

Sony has not said when it expects the problem to be solved.

Login issues could be a sign of bigger problems and PlayStation Network users will probably never forget the long-term outage that affected the service in 2011, when hackers managed to get access to millions of accounts, including to sensitive personal and credit card data.

Sony has pledged that something similar will never happen and it will probably quickly alert PSN users if the current login issues turn out to be a sign that something more problematic is happening to its service.
