During a PlayStation 4 session at the Game Developers Conference, the team at Sony explained that its upcoming home console was designed to appeal to core gamers first and foremost, even if all the main features could also appeal to other groups.

ArsTechnica reports that Chris Norden, a Sony senior staff engineer, has stated that his company wants the PS4 to become the “central device in the living room.”

To ensure core game interest, the company will equip the hardware with a new PlayStation Shader Language, which introduces more features than both DirextX 11 and OpenGL 4.0.

The hard drive of the PlayStation 4 will also be very large, but Sony is not willing to talk about the exact size.

Sony is expected to talk about the price of the new console and its actual launch date during the upcoming E3 2013.
