Avalanche Studios believes RAM, not CPU speed, will make a difference

Avalanche Studios, the developer of the Just Cause franchise, believes that, while CPU speeds for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One next-gen consoles aren't important, the difference in RAM size could end up making PS4 games look better than Xbox One titles.

Both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are powered by AMD hardware, but the Sony next-gen console has an advantage in terms of frequency.

According to Avalanche's Chief Technical Officer, Linus Blomberg, who talked with GamingBolt, speed won't make that big of a difference, as new processors are powerful no matter their clock frequency.

A potential differentiating factor could be the RAM size, as the PS4 has 7 out of 8GB available for games, while the Xbox One allocates 5 out of 8GB to titles.

"I think that is too early to say. Naturally it’s easier and cheaper for the developers to develop for the smallest common denominator, but if that difference becomes too large we’ll definitely see specific implementations for each platform."

As of yet, there haven't been any comparisons made between multiplatform next-gen games, so it's unclear if a visual difference will exist.
