Jim Ryan, who is the president and chief executive officer of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, believes that the PlayStation Plus service will be very important to the success of the PlayStation 4.

The executive is unwilling to offer more details on Sony’s actual plans for the service.

During a talk with the official PlayStation Blog he states, “It’s been really well received – the value is quite extraordinary and the take-up has trebled over the course of the past year. We definitely see that as a core part of the way forward.”

He defined the role of PS Plus in the future of the PlayStation brand as being prominent, which might mean that the two tier paid structure that exists today will be maintained and even expanded.

The PlayStation 4 will be launched before the Christmas shopping season.
